The basics

What is x402?

An open standard for paying over HTTP. A server answers 402 Payment Required with a price; the client signs a stablecoin transfer and sends the request again. It was started by Coinbase and is now developed in the open by the x402 Foundation.

What is a facilitator?

The service that checks a signed payment and puts it on the blockchain, so your server doesn't need a wallet with gas or a blockchain node. Penni is a facilitator, plus a dashboard for prices, keys and numbers.

What makes Penni different?

We are built in and for Europe: euro pricing with EURC first, servers in the EU, no third-party trackers, and a dashboard where you set prices per path instead of in code.

Who is Penni for?

Anyone who sells something an agent or app might want one piece at a time: API calls, articles, datasets, images, model outputs. Publishers, SaaS teams and independent developers.

Do I need to know crypto?

You need a wallet address to receive payments, and that's it. Prices are set in euro, and you can top up credits by card or iDEAL.

Payments & money

Does Penni hold my money?

No. The payer signs a transfer to your wallet, and Penni submits it to the network. The money goes directly from the payer to you. We only receive the credits you buy to pay our fee.

How fast do I get paid?

On Base and Solana a settlement confirms within seconds. On Cardano it waits for a block and one more on top, usually under a minute. The tokens are in your wallet at that moment; there is no payout schedule.

Which networks and tokens do you support?

Base and Solana with Circle's EURC and USDC, and Cardano with USDM. Each has a free test network: Base Sepolia, Solana Devnet and Cardano Preprod. Need another token or network? Request it from the contact form in your dashboard.

How do I turn EURC into euros in my bank account?

Any exchange or service that supports EURC on Base or Solana can convert it and pay out by SEPA transfer. Businesses can also redeem EURC 1:1 through Circle Mint.

What do my customers need to pay?

A wallet with a stablecoin you accept on Base, Solana or Cardano, and an x402 client. Agent frameworks with x402 support pay without any extra work from you or them.

Can a payment be reversed?

No. A settled stablecoin transfer is final, so there are no chargebacks. Refunds, if you offer them, are a transfer back from your wallet.

Credits & billing

What does Penni cost?

€0.002 per successful settlement, from prepaid credits. Gas is included. Verifications and failed settlements are free. See pricing.

How do I buy credits?

In the dashboard under Billing: from €5 in EURC from your browser wallet, or from €20 by card or iDEAL through Stripe.

What happens when my credits run out?

You choose, per site. Serve for free (default): priced pages are served without payment until you top up. Block: priced pages answer "payments temporarily unavailable" until you top up; free pages keep working. Either way we email you before you run low, and with auto top-up it doesn't have to happen at all.

Can my credits top up automatically?

Yes. Save a card or SEPA Direct Debit mandate through Stripe and choose a threshold and an amount, for example "when my balance drops below €10, add €50". Credits are added as soon as Stripe confirms the payment. The top-up amount is at least the threshold. You set a monthly limit that auto top-up never exceeds, and an optional weekly amount for alerts; we email you at 50%, 75% and 90%, and you can raise this month's limit from the dashboard. If a payment fails, we email you, and after three failures in a row auto top-up switches itself off.

Is there a free tier or trial?

Not for real payments: each settlement costs us gas, and we'd rather charge a small honest amount than hide the cost elsewhere. Testing is free, though. Settlements on the test networks need no credits, up to 1,000 a day, so you can build your whole integration before you buy any.

Integration

Can I use Penni with my existing x402 setup?

Yes. Penni speaks the standard x402 facilitator API. Point your middleware at the facilitator URL https://api.pennipay.eu/v1/x402 and send your site key along.

Do I need an SDK?

No, but there is one. @pennipay/x402 adds Penni to Express, Hono, Next.js, Fastify or any fetch runtime in one line. Without it, three HTTP calls cover it: fetch the price, answer 402, verify and settle. See the developer guide.

How do prices per path work?

Each site has a default price and an ordered list of rules like /premium/** or /api/*. The first matching rule wins, and a price of €0 makes a path free.

Is there a WordPress plugin?

Yes. Install it, paste your site ID and key, and choose who pays: AI agents and apps only (readers and search engines read for free), or everyone. For other sites there's a Cloudflare Worker that sits in front of any origin. See integrations.

Can I get notified when I'm paid?

Yes. Add a webhook endpoint in the dashboard and receive signed events for every settlement, low credits and top-ups. For bookkeeping, export settlements and credits as CSV.

Can AI agents find what I sell?

If you want them to. Switch on discovery for a site and its paid resources are listed in the x402 Bazaar discovery API that agents search. It's off until you turn it on, and the dashboard shows exactly what becomes public.

Can I test without real money?

Yes, for free. Select test tokens on Base Sepolia, Solana Devnet or Cardano Preprod and the site switches to test mode. Get test tokens from a faucet, then press "Pay with test tokens" on the site page to send a payment exactly as an agent would. Test settlements need no credits, up to 1,000 a day.

Privacy & security

How do I sign in? Is there a password?

There are no passwords. You sign in with a one-time link we email you, or with a passkey: Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello or a security key. You can add two-factor authentication with an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.

Where is my data stored?

On servers in the European Union. See the privacy policy for what we store and why.

What do you know about payers?

Their wallet address, the amount and the transaction hash, which are public on the blockchain anyway. No names, emails or cookies.

Can someone use my site key to spend my credits?

Only to settle payments that go to your own wallet, in tokens you accept. Keep the key on your server, and revoke it in the dashboard if it leaks. See security.
