Install

WordPress

Charge AI agents and apps per request for your posts and pages. People and search engines keep reading for free.

Requirements: WordPress 6.0 or later and PHP 7.4 or later.

  1. In the dashboard, add your site, set your receiving wallet and your prices, and create an API key.
  2. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, upload penni.zip and activate it.
  3. Go to Settings → Penni, enter the site ID and API key, and save.
  4. Press Test connection. It shows whether the site is ready, whether it's in test or live mode, and the price of any path.

Prefer to keep the key out of the database? Add it to wp-config.php instead:

wp-config.php
define( 'PENNI_SITE_ID', 'site_...' );
define( 'PENNI_API_KEY', 'x402_sk_...' );

Who pays

SettingWho is charged
AI agents and apps only (default)Clients that send an x402 payment, known AI crawlers and assistants, and clients that don't ask for HTML (scripts, HTTP libraries). People and search engines read for free.
EveryoneEvery client. People see a small page that explains the price; search engines are still let in unless you turn that off.

"AI agents and apps only" is a polite toll, not a wall: a client that pretends to be a browser reads for free. Choose "Everyone" if everyone should pay.

Never charged

  • The admin, AJAX, cron, XML-RPC and logged-in editors.
  • robots.txt, sitemaps, feeds (unless you enable them) and 404 pages.
